This course is for you if you’re considering, or already have, supervisory responsibilities.
Who should attend
This CITB SSSTS course is for first-line managers, including those who have to or are about to gain supervisory responsibilities.
Course outline
- An introduction to health and safety law, duties, responsibilities, enforcement and sanctions
- Developing a health & safety management system
- Occupational health – drugs and alcohol issues and policies
- Fire prevention measures and controls
- Risk assessments and method statements
- Hazardous substances - identification, management and control
- CDM - Construction (Design & Management) regulations for managing the health, safety and welfare of construction projects
- Working at height, including equipment and regulations
- PPE
- Manual handling, including importance and regulations
- Accidents and first aid
- Toolbox talks - a short presentation on singular aspects of health and safety
At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:
- Health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
- Your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safely
- Risk assessments and the need for method statements
- Effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
- Monitoring site activities effectively
- Timely intervention when bad practice is identified
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
